WINDOWS 7 Support Extended

Feb 27, 2018

Windows 7 support will be extended at least until January 1 2020. Windows 10 has been around two years now but some issues continue to make the operating system unreliable. Most of the problems seem to be connected to windows 10 updates. Not every computer has the same problems; makingĀ  a fix more difficult. If you bought a native (A computer built with windows 10 as the only operating system) the problems can be different from a computer upgraded from windows 7 or 8.

This issue is not unlike other Microsoft operating systems that take some time to perfect. It would be unfair to blame Microsoft for all of the possible problems. Many computers have third party programs that do not play well with windows 10. I have listed below some of the problems I have found when clients have called me with a problem.

1.Windows 10 says that the update failed. Windows 10 seems to always be updating. Sometimes you may need to retry the update several times before it works.

2.Windows 10 may at some point say “you need to activate windows”. Some updates can cause this message to come up on your computer. It is so common that Microsoft actually has a downloadable fix for the problem. Sometimes it works, but not always. Whenever you buy a computer or install windows 10 you need to go to settings, update and security and click on activation. If it says “windows is activated by an organization or digital license” it is activated. There is no time limit on this activation.

3. Windows 10 does not seem to like older copies of office. Some updates cause your office to be turned back to a temporary program. Microsoft office tool kit is a download that can sometimes fix this problem.

4. Windows 10 is by far the best operating system for picking up the correct drivers for all internal hardware and external hardware. Some peripherals (Like your printer) can sometimes stop working after a windows 10 update, or may not work correctly from the beginning. Some printers and other peripherals do not provide a driver that will work on a windows 10 computer. This printer maker will blame it on Microsoft and Microsoft will blame it on the printer manufacturer. You have to figure out how to solve the problem.

5. Seeing this message “sorry windows 10 had a problem starting up” is not a good thing. This can be a pretty easy fix, and it can also be difficult to repair. Unless you know a lot about windows 10 I would not advise trying to fix this problem. I have seen some simple start up problems turn into wiping the whole hard drive. If you don’t already have windows 10 installed, I would wait a few months and give Microsoft a chance to get it right. You can always Email or call me to get help with these issues. Advice is free, as always!
