So you find yourself needing to buy a new or used computer. For all the computer experts out there, this article is not for you. CNETÂ www.cnet.com did a survey where they asked 5,000 computer users if they think they got exactly what they needed when they bought a computer. Seventy eight percent said they would have been better off with something different. The first thing to understand before you buy is “what are your real needs”. Do you need a terabyte of hard drive storage, that’s a hundred gigabytes? Do you need 16 gigabytes of ram memory?
The average computer owner surfs the web, sends Emails, has a Facebook account and maybe quick books if you have a business. I always like to advise people to get just a little more than they think they need. To meet all of these needs a computer with a dual or quad core processor, eight gigs of ram and a 500 gigabyte hard drive will do all you need and more. If you want to speed things up a lot get a solid state hard drive in place of the mechanical hard drive. You can’t get more bang for your buck than adding a solid state hard drive. Now if money is not a concern just buy the beast of a computer that you really want. It’s like the guy who owns a car that will go 160 miles an hour. He will probably never go that fast but it’s nice to know he or she can.
For all you gamers and high end photographers, you guys like to make your own choices. I know that there are many generations of processors and super fast ram out there but it is all hype unless you have a special need.
